Welcome to Monday Mosaic the weekly newsletter from Reflective Wisdom, which offers you a collection of tips and resources so you can stay fulfilled in your influence as an educator.

Changing Your Frequency

One of the most important steps to shift your frequency to put yourself in a calmer state is to pause. We live in a constant connected world. GOING. GOING. GOING. DOING. DOING. DOING.

So Pause let’s to take a timeout from that. To just be with yourself and open space to ask yourself, “How am I?”

So to create the best conditions for Pause, we will use music and comfortable location. You can use the featured music and find a comfortable spot where you can be free from distraction. While you are pausing, take a moment to ask yourself - How do I influence?

Enjoy!

The First Six Weeks of School by Responsive Classroom

Here’s a question for you. How do you prepare for the school year? In my early years as a Kindergarten teacher, I remember as August would approach, I would spend hours upon hours decorating my room as if if was a staging area for all that is Lakeshore and Childcraft.

My classroom would have this pristine look with color coordinated swag, the toys and books would be on display perfectly arranged. And then ... the students arrived.

Can you guess what would happen? Yep, 25 super excited Kindergartners would enter and in their own way explore EVERYTHING and then I would get super frustrated when they wouldn't put anything back where they were originally. In a matter of minutes, they would dismantle all the days and hours I put into setting up the classroom.

That mindset all changed after I read this book. It helped me to better utilize my time the early weeks of school in co-creating and building the classroom space with my student and yes, even with my Kindergartners. As a result, I was less stressed the beginning of the year and I didn’t impose the self pressure of having a room set up perfectly.

Visit National Governors Association (NGA)

When I decided to  become a teacher, my primary purpose was to influence the growth and development of my students. I didn’t know anything about the impact those in government positions have in what actually happens in a school setting. It’s important to at least have on your radar what leading decision-makers in government are doing for education.

If your curious, then I invite you to check out NGA’s website. More specifically the Education and Workforce Committee Page. There you will find Policy Positions, Letters and Testimony related to how this advocacy committee is impacting public education.
