Cultivating Relationships on a Board

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

On Saturday, March 25th, I had the honor of facilitating a Board Development retreat for the Southwest Lancaster Neighborhood Board. These amazing citizens came together for four hours re-calibrating their sense of contribution to the board.

The highlight of our time together was the closing exercise. The Group Puzzle Process invited each board member to take stock and assess the way they contribute to the board. At the start of this team building exercise, each person was instructed to choose two cards. The first card represented what the individual contributes to the board and other members to work well. The second card represented what the individual would like more help with in order to support the work of the board. Once the members selected their cards, each one had an opportunity to share their stories with the entire group.

Next, members were instructed to work together for the next 15 minutes and decide how they wanted to use the cards to create a puzzle or symbol. They could decide if the puzzle they create represents who they are now as a board or what type of board they want to become. Then they had an opportunity to us their completed design to decide what direction they wanted to take moving forward as a board.

Thanks for considering all the fine details and formatting our Board Retreat with such care and enthusiasm! It would be fair to say that you exceeded the high expectations we had for this past Saturday. You helped reset our minds and helped bring the layers down among the group.
